Whetstone Wine Cellars takes its name from the whetstone — the sharpening stone, the abrasive surface used to put a fine edge on a blade. The whetstone's function is refinement through resistance: the blade is made sharper through controlled friction against the stone's surface. Applied to winemaking, the whetstone philosophy declares the cellar process as a sharpening process: the wine is made more precise, more focused, more refined through the controlled friction of oak aging, racking, and careful élevage. The Napa Valley boutique produces Cabernet Sauvignon from estate and contracted vineyard sources.
