Liparita Cellars — Howell Mountain Winery & Tasting Room

Liparita Cellars is named for the Lipari Islands — the Aeolian volcanic archipelago off the northern coast of Sicily whose name derives from the Latin liparita, the volcanic rhyolite rock type that characterizes both the islands and, coincidentally, the volcanic geology of Howell Mountain. The naming connects a Napa Valley mountain appellation to its Italian volcanic geological twin through the Latin rock name.

The Howell Mountain estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon from volcanic red soils at high elevation where the liparite geological heritage is most literally expressed in the terroir.
