About Melka Estates
Melka Estates is the Napa Valley home of Philippe and Cherie Melka, the husband-and-wife team behind Melka Wines, the personal label they launched in 1996 with a 240-case Bordeaux blend called Metisse. The primary property, eleven acres in the heart of St. Helena, including the winery, residence and tasting space, was purchased in 2011, building on vineyard acquisitions the Melkas began in 2001.
Philippe Melka, trained in geology and enology at Bordeaux University, is one of Napa's most sought-after consulting winemakers, with a résumé that includes stints at Château Haut-Brion, Chittering Estate in Australia and Badia a Coltibuono in Italy before he and Cherie (herself a veteran of Ridge, Beaulieu Vineyard and Silver Oak) built their own portfolio of single-vineyard wines, including Jumping Goat and Montbleau in St. Helena, Martinez on Pritchard Hill, and the Mekerra property across the county line in Knights Valley, alongside a library program of roughly 3,000 bottles spanning two decades of vintages.
