About Parrish Family Vineyard
The Parrish story starts in the 1920s, when David Parrish's grandfather Earl Henderson became one of the first to plant in Atascadero, setting out 540 acres of Alicante, Charbono, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel, the Zin cuttings bought from the famed Paderewski Ranch, and holding the town's P.O. Box 1; his home is now the Atascadero Historical Museum. David graduated from UC Davis in 1974 and built A&P Ag Structures, the trellising company whose systems went into vineyards for Robert Mondavi, Sterling and Beringer, before returning to his grandfather's ground and producing the first Parrish Family vintage in 2004.
Today the family farms estate vineyards in the Adelaida, Templeton and Creston districts, specializing in Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varieties from calcareous limestone soils. A downtown tasting room opened in 2011, succeeded in 2018 by a winery and hospitality estate on Adelaida Road designed to echo the original Creston family home, with an estate chef pairing dishes like Cabernet-sourdough sandwiches to the wines, a putting green among the vines, and David himself often pouring alongside his daughter Cecily. The family also restored Adelaida Creek, which rises on the property, with county partners in 2016.
A century of Paso farming, from grandfather Earl Henderson's Prohibition-era vines to David Parrish's Adelaida estate of limestone-grown Cabernet.
