About Prime Solum
Prime Solum was founded by longtime Napa vintner Bill Hill, who moved to Napa in 1974, earned an MBA from Stanford, and previously built William Hill Winery and Pacific Premiere Vineyards. He opened Prime Solum's tasting room in June 2018 at 1021 Atlas Peak Road, within the city of Napa's Silverado Wine & Arts District; his daughter Elana co-oversees operations today.
The project centers on the 96-acre Broken Rock Vineyard, planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, at 600 to 700 feet elevation on the Atlas Peak bench. Prime Solum produces two lines: the Bordeaux-varietal Prime Solum wines (about 800 cases a year from Broken Rock and select Napa sites) and the cooler-climate Expression 38° wines, sourced from Sonoma and Mendocino.
