About Prime Solum
Prime Solum takes its name from Latin: prime (first, most excellent) and solum (soil, earth, ground) — together, 'first soil' or 'prime earth.' The declaration is agronomic and philosophical simultaneously: the best wine comes from the best soil, and identifying and farming that soil with precision is the primary task of a serious winemaker.
The Oakville-based boutique produces Cabernet Sauvignon from Oakville's most carefully identified vineyard sources — the alluvial benchland soils that have made Oakville one of the world's most prestigious Cabernet appellations. The Latin naming reflects the estate's conviction that ancient traditions of soil observation and classification (as practiced in Burgundy and Bordeaux for centuries) apply directly to Napa Valley wine quality.
Wine Advocate has scored Prime Solum's Oakville and Napa Valley Cabernet at 91–94 points, recognizing the quality of the vineyard sourcing and the winemaking precision.
