About Purgatory Cellars Winery

Purgatory Cellars Winery is a Front Range winery in Parker, founded in 2013 by winemakers from Croatia with a passion for high-quality wine and a love of Colorado grapes. Owner Marko Copic, from Jastrebarsko, Croatia, brings two decades of Old World and Mediterranean winemaking experience, handcrafting every bottle on site from crush and press through fermentation, aging, and bottling.

Around ninety percent of the fruit comes from hand-selected Colorado growers, as the winery works to bring the qualities of Western Slope and Four Corners grapes to the Front Range. Purgatory Cellars is proud to be the first winery in Colorado to age wine in amphora, the ancient clay vessels used for winemaking some five thousand years ago, which lend the wines complexity, soft tannins, and deeper color through long skin maceration, all visible on site. Marko built the winery and handmade its furniture in Croatia before importing it, creating an Old World European feel around a modern production facility. The wines have earned some thirty medals, including three at the 2024 Finger Lakes International Wine and Spirits Competition, and a second tasting room operates in Castle Rock.

Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.

Wines change with each vintage
Purgatory Cellars handcrafts every wine in Parker from about ninety percent Colorado grapes, drawing fruit from the Western Slope and Four Corners to the Front Range. The lineup runs from a Syrah Reserve and the Confession blend to a Moscato Black sparkling and low-sulfite bottlings, several aged in amphora. Offerings rotate.

Old World Tasting
Sip a flight, glass, or bottle in a cozy, fireplace-warmed tasting room built and furnished by the owner in an Old World European style, with the amphora and winemaking equipment in full view. Add a charcuterie plate of cheeses, salami, nuts, and dried fruit. Children are welcome with a parent.
