About Zeitgeist Cellars
Mark Porembski, whose college degree was in poetry rather than winemaking, moved to Napa Valley in 2000 after chance meetings with two St. Helena natives while studying in Dallas, driving out without a job lined up and landing seasonal harvest work at Far Niente, Araujo Estate, and El Molino. He founded Zeitgeist Cellars with his first vintage in 2005, later joined by his wife, winemaker Jennifer Williams, who had interned at Beaulieu Vineyard and served as head winemaker at Spottswoode from 2006 to 2010.
The name, German for "the spirit of the times," reflects the couple's small-batch, hands-on approach: they produce only about 1,000 cases a year while both also consult for other Napa Valley wineries and raise three daughters. Zeitgeist sources from a small number of longtime vineyard relationships, including an old St. Helena Chenin Blanc block and Coombsville's Farella Vineyard.
