About Mark Herold Wines
Mark Herold Wines is the personal label of Mark Herold — the winemaker who co-founded Merus and built it into one of Napa Valley's most critically acclaimed cult Cabernet estates before its sale to E&J Gallo. His own name on the label is the simplest possible declaration: this is what I do when I'm making wine entirely for myself, from vineyards I've chosen, without compromise.
Mark Herold's winemaking reputation was established through Merus — the Howell Mountain and Napa Valley Cabernet program that earned scores of 95–100 points from Wine Advocate and became one of the valley's most allocated cult wines. His consulting work extends to some of Napa's most serious estates. The personal label captures that same precision at the winemaker's own scale.
The Cabernet Sauvignon produced under his own surname explores Napa Valley sites that Herold finds compelling for their ability to express terroir without winemaking intervention obscuring the vineyard's character.
