About Maxville Winery
Maxville Winery (also marketed as Maxville Lake Wines/Winery) sits on nearly 1,100 acres in Napa's remote Chiles Valley AVA at 4105 Chiles Pope Valley Road, St. Helena. The land traces back to an 1844 land grant to pioneer Joseph Chiles, later became the Bar 49 Estate children's summer camp run by the Keith family from the 1960s-80s, and was first planted to vineyard by the Keiths in 1974; a winery called Catacula Lake operated on the property before closing.
The current owner, Qinghai Huzhu Barley Wine Co. (led by Travis Li), purchased the property in 2014 and undertook a major renovation beginning in 2016. About 100 of the estate's acres are planted to vineyard, while roughly 700 acres are permanently preserved under a Napa Valley Land Trust conservation easement. Maxville focuses on Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petite Sirah, producing roughly 12,000 cases a year, and is open to visitors by appointment only.
