Sante Arcangeli Family Wines carries one of the San Mateo coast's oldest food names - the family behind Pescadero's beloved Arcangeli Grocery Company - into wine. Owner-winemaker John Benedetti focuses on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, most of it grown in the Corralitos corner of the Santa Cruz Mountains along with select cool coastal mountain sites, chasing wines he describes as nuanced, approachable, and ethereal.
Tastings happen in one of the most charming settings anywhere: a rustic tasting barn on the grounds of Harley Farms, the working goat dairy on the edge of Pescadero. Flights of four to six current-release wines run $30 (free quarterly for club members and a guest), often poured by John himself or assistant winemaker Drew, with Dee Harley's fresh goat cheese made steps away and available alongside.
After the flight, wander the farm garden, visit the goats, or claim a picnic spot with a bottle - and the family tradition says stop at Arcangeli Grocery in downtown Pescadero for its famous artichoke bread on the way. Doors are generally open Friday through Sunday afternoons; reservations are encouraged and walk-ins fit as capacity allows.
