How the SLO Coast Breaks Down
The SLO Coast AVA runs along the Pacific side of San Luis Obispo County, a narrow band of vineyards cooled by ocean air nearly year-round. Within it sit two older, well-known AVAs - Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley - plus the coastal towns of Avila Beach, Cayucos, Cambria, Harmony and San Simeon, and a cluster of urban tasting rooms in downtown San Luis Obispo.
For trip planning, think in five zones: Edna Valley's estate rooms ten minutes from downtown; the walkable city rooms of San Luis Obispo; Arroyo Grande Valley to the south; beach-front Avila; and the Highway 1 run north through Cayucos, Harmony, Cambria and San Simeon. Distances are short, so it is easy to mix an estate morning with a beach-town afternoon.
