About Sonoma County
Sonoma County is the anti-Napa — and that's meant as a compliment. Where Napa is polished and grand, Sonoma is approachable and genuine. The county spans an enormous range of climates and terroirs: from the frigid, fog-soaked Sonoma Coast where world-class Pinot Noir clings to cliffs, to the warm Dry Creek Valley where old-vine Zinfandel thrives in the summer heat.
The county is home to 389 wineries across 19 distinct AVAs. Healdsburg serves as the charming hub — a walkable town square surrounded by Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Russian River Valley. The Larson Family Winery in Carneros represents the county at its best: fifth-generation farming, estate wines, and a genuine welcome for everyone including the dog.
Sonoma is also the most dog-friendly wine region in California. Many wineries welcome dogs and some are practically built around them — Larson Family Winery's Three Lab Cab is the most famous example, but dozens of others maintain water bowls, treats, and off-leash areas for four-legged visitors.
